Press photographer, Documentary filmmaker. Member of Panos Pictures, Napo Images and a Canon Ambassador. Born in 1967 in Koszalin, Poland. Piotr finished documentary filmmaking at Wajda School in Warsaw. He also studied cinematography at the Faculty of Radio and Television of Silesian University and photography at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art in the United Kingdom. He is a scholarship grantee of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Piotr is cooperating with the global media outlets. He's been working for The New York Times, Stern Magazine, Financial Times, Der Spiegel, Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Politiken, De Volkskrant, Newsweek and many others. His photography has been widely recognized at numerous photo contests (Pictures of the Year International, Grand Press Photo and others), his "Facing Brexit" story was aquired to the collection of the Widener Library of Harvard University.
FILMMAKING: Piotr's documentary films have been honoured with numerous awards and nominations, are screened at the television, presented on VOD, in-flight entertainment and have been included in the programs of international film festivals such as Doc Leipzig, Krakow Film Festival, Camerimage. Piotr Malecki lectured in press photography at the Institute of Journalism of Warsaw University (In 2010-2012) and Lodz Film School (in 2021) Since 2015, in association with Canon Poland, Piotr has been teaching photography and film at workshops "To My Tworzymy Swiat" (We create the World) set in many Polish towns. He was also a teacher at other photography workshops; at FotoPub Festival in Nove Mesto, Slovenia, Napo Images workshops in Warsaw and Gdansk, as well as making portfolio reviews; during VII agency workshop in Warsaw or various photo festivals and events.
